Cybersecurity Simplified

Since the landscape of cyber threats is always evolving, it is difficult to predict precisely what new cyberattacks may appear in the future. However, there are a few patterns that security professionals are monitoring. In this article, I predict a few for 2023.

Ransomware Attacks

Ransomware Attacks involve attackers encrypting a victim's data and demanding payment to decrypt it. In 2022, there have been 13% more ransomware incidents than in 2021, and this trend is projected to continue in 2023.

AI-Powered Attacks

It is plausible that attackers will utilize machine learning and artificial intelligence (AI) to automate and enhance their attacks as these technologies spread and evolve. AI might be used, for instance, to automate the process of identifying and exploiting software flaws or to produce more convincing phishing emails.

IoT Attacks

Attackers are very likely to target the increasing number of connected IoT devices (such as smart appliances, security cameras, and sensors) more frequently in order to access networks and sensitive data as the number of these devices keeps expanding.

Supply Chain Attacks

Such attacks nvolve breaking into a company's supply chain in order to access its systems and data. Since more and more businesses are depending on third-party suppliers and partners, this kind of attack has lately made headlines and is probably going to pose a bigger concern in the future.

Autonomous Vehicles Attacks

Attackers are likely to target Autonomous vehicles (AVs) that are vulnerable to a number of cyber threats, including:

  1. Vehicle Control: Hackers could potentially take control of an AV and manipulate its movements.
  2. Sensors: AVs rely on sensors (IoT) that can be hacked.
  3. Vehicle Communication: If communication channels are compromised, it could affect the AV's ability to safely navigate and interact with its environment.
